Whittington W. Clement served in Governor Mark Warner’s Cabinet as the Secretary of Transportation for over three years. The Secretariat has oversight of developing and implementing Virginia’s transportation program, including management and budgetary responsibilities for the Departments of Transportation, Motor Vehicles, Aviation, and Rail and Public Transportation, as well as for the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board and the Virginia Port Authority. In addition, The Secretary of Transportation serves as Chairman of the Commonwealth Transportation Board.

Prior to joining the Warner Administration, Mr. Clement served in the Virginia House of Delegates for 14 years representing the City of Danville and part of Pittsylvania County. In the legislature, Mr. Clement served on the House Appropriations Subcommittees on Higher Education and Capital Outlay. He also served on both the Commission on the Future of Higher Education and the Commission on the Future of Transportation.

Mr. Clement, formerly with the Danville law firm of Clement & Wheatley, joined Hunton & Williams as a Partner in April of 2005. As an attorney, he has been active in his profession and served as President of the Virginia Bar Association in 1993. He has been listed among the best lawyers in the Commonwealth by Virginia Business magazine. In addition to serving as chair of the Council, he is president-elect of the Virginia Law Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the legal profession in Virginia, and serves of the Board of Directors of Virginia FREE and Lead Virginia. He is a former chair of the Board of Trustees at Averett University.

Mr. Clement is a graduate of the University of Virginia undergraduate and law schools. He is married to the former Margaret Irby and they have three sons.
